Brief description of Baumgarten's war experiences in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. Discusses the weather, native lifestyle, and war wreckage on New Guinea. Includes accounts of his combat in the Philippines, consisting of two combat parachute jumps and other stories replete with close calls. Also discusses his role in the liberation of Filipino cities and the natives' attitude towards the soldiers. Describes his role and responsibilities during the occupation of Japan in 1945-1946. The collection includes pictures of himself and family, most notably his older brother, Jack Baumgarten. Also contains newspaper articles detailing a paratrooper operation and Baumgarten's reception of the Purple Heart.
